These terms cover your use of JourneyTracker, made by Justin Whitehead. Using the app means you agree to them. They're written to be readable; where a sentence sounds like a lawyer wrote it, it's because it had to be.
An app that turns walking distance from Apple Health into progress along real-world and imagined journeys. It is not a navigation app, not a medical device, and not a fitness or health product. Distances from Apple Health are estimates and can be wrong. Don't rely on anything in this app for a decision about your health, your safety, or where you are.
You don't need one. Without an account everything runs on your device, nothing is sent to us, and nothing is backed up. If you delete the app or lose your phone, that data is gone — that's the trade, and it's the reason accounts exist.
Accounts use Sign in with Apple. You're responsible for the Apple ID you sign in with. You need to be at least 13, or at least 16 in the EU, EEA and UK. If you're under that age, don't make an account — the app works fully without one.
When you're signed in we keep a private copy of your journeys so they survive a new phone. It's private to your account and we don't show it to anyone. We try hard not to lose it, but we don't guarantee it: keep in mind it's a convenience, not an archive of record. You can export a copy any time.
Sharing is off unless you turn it on. Settings > Sharing has two switches — Journeys & progress, and Trophy case — each set to Everyone, Friends, or Not shared, and both start at Not shared. They apply to your whole account, not to individual journeys. With Journeys & progress on, your journeys' progress and your display name can be shown to other people in the app, a finished journey's time can appear on a fastest-finishes list, and your distance counts toward weekly and monthly totals. Everyone includes public leaderboards; Friends does not. Set a switch back to Not shared and everything it had shared is deleted, across every journey; totals already counted stay counted. Your display name is shown wherever you're visible and can't be hidden on its own.
Your display name is the only thing you publish here, and you're responsible for it. Don't use a name that: impersonates someone else; harasses, threatens or demeans anyone; is sexual, hateful or violent; advertises something; contains someone's personal information; or uses a brand, character or trademark you don't own. You give us permission to show your display name inside the app to people who can see your shared progress — that's all we do with it, and only for as long as you keep an account.
Don't fake your progress. Don't feed the app distance you didn't walk, don't tamper with the data we receive, don't automate or script the app, and don't try to read other people's data or work around the limits we put on how often the app can send. We check submissions that don't look physically possible and we reject them. Persistent attempts to cheat can cost you your account.
If someone's display name breaks rule 6, report it. We review reports and can remove a name or close an account. We keep a record of reports for 24 months, with the reported person's identity replaced by a one-way hash, so that closing an account doesn't wipe a pattern of abuse.
We review every report within 24 hours and act on it — a forced rename or a suspended account. Questions or an urgent report: journeytrackerapplication@gmail.com.
You can stop any time: delete your account in Settings, which erases everything we hold on our servers immediately and permanently, and leaves the app on your phone working exactly as before. We can close an account that breaks these terms, and we'll tell you why unless doing so would get in the way of dealing with abuse.
JourneyTracker is under active development. Features can change, arrive late, or be withdrawn. Social features in particular are being built in stages, and the app can be run without them.
If we change them we'll update this page and the effective date. Your Sharing settings are forward-looking: features you've already chosen an audience for — friends, leaderboards — will use that choice when they arrive. If we ever want to do something your setting doesn't already describe, we'll ask you in the app first.
We don't promise it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that the distances it shows are accurate. To the extent the law allows, Justin Whitehead isn't liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of data, arising from your use of the app.
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Utah, USA.
